Day 1 : January 29, 2020

 

10:30 am  Registration and visit to Packaging corner

(After registration participants are led to a corner where they display their own packaging as well as get a chance to touch, feel and compare different packaging material & solutions for sample products of their interest. It is expected to generate thought provoking questions during the sessions)

 

11:00  Knowing each other, introduction to the topic and training approach

(Meet participants and create an atmosphere for future “on line” networking and information sharing)

 

11:15  Recap - Packaging basics

(Introduction to functions and levels of packaging with specific reference to the products of interest)

12:00  Elements of Product-Packaging design

(Understanding the important elements of packaging: like product, packaging material, processing and filling line, supply chain, marketing and branding to evolve a packaging design for your product.)

 

12:30  Packaging Materials

(Understanding the functional & barrier properties of packaging materials, quality parameters to decide optimum specifications and selection criteria of Packaging)

 

13:30  Lunch and Networking

 

14:30 “Tailor making of properties” - exploring flexible packaging materials design and selection.  

(Understanding Flexible Packaging through a case study)

 

15:30  Flexible packaging- Innovations & trends in developing safe & cost effective packaging

(Latest developments,Paper, foil and plastics, measures to enhance barrier and structure properties….)

 

16:00  Refreshments and Networking

 

16:30 Create a design concept - Group Activity to design a Packaging

(Three groups will be formed and led to select a topic and work on creating a design concept during their own time with the inputs provided during the workshop. Group activity will be presented and assessed on the last day.

 

Day 2: January 30, 2020

 

11:00  Packaging Testing and Evaluation I

(Compatibility and barrier properties. Tests to ensure stability of the food packaging: Oxygen Transmission Rate, Water Vapour Transmission Rate. Shelf life and accelerated shelf life studies. International standards in use with references…)

 

11:30 Packaging Testing and Evaluation II

(Relevance of global and specific migration limits, their determination with reference to standards, standards on weights and measures of packaging, labelling requirements…)

 

12:00  Refreshments and Networking

 

12:30 Shelf life  estimation  and distribution packaging

(Various hazards encountered during  distribution.  Compatibilty Criteria )

 

13:30 Change in the market environment and its impact on Packaging

(Consumer lifestyle, brand strategy  )

14:30 Exercise “Design concept” discussions and interactions with the participants

(Assessing group work and providing inputs for the group exercise)

(Emerging opportunities in packaging for Food, Pharmaceutical and cosmetic products)

(Environment impact, reduce/reuse/recycle, extended producers responsibility, environment friendly packaging…)

 

11:30 Mandatory requirements for: Consumer package testing , Transit package testing (Interpretation of test reports, fault analysis and their solutions.)

12:30 Facilities for Consumer Packaging testing and evaluation

  (Basic minimum requirements for a centralised test lab as well as what test equipments a company must have)
